Terms of Service

Last updated: 25 May 2026  ·  Effective: 25 May 2026  ·  Governed by the laws of England and Wales

Plain English summary: Use DocShift fairly. Pay for paid features. Don't try to break things or abuse the service. Your documents are yours — we never see them. If something goes wrong, our liability is limited to what you've paid us.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using DocShift ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. These terms form a legally binding agreement between you and DocShift Ltd, registered in England and Wales.

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated at least 14 days in advance. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

2. The Service

DocShift is a browser-based PDF toolkit. All document processing occurs locally on your device. DocShift Ltd does not upload, store, transmit, or access your document content at any point.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice. We will not remove paid features from active subscription tiers without providing a proportionate refund.

3. Accounts

Some features require a DocShift account. You are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate account information
  • Maintaining the security of your credentials
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorised access at [email protected]

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and purchase a subscription.

Payments are processed by Stripe. DocShift does not store card details. UK VAT is applied where required.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
  • Attempt to circumvent subscription enforcement, watermarking, or usage limits
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from the Service
  • Resell or sublicense access to the Service without written permission
  • Use automated tools to abuse free-tier limits
  • Upload malicious files designed to exploit our processing libraries

6. Intellectual Property

DocShift's code, design, trademarks, and content are the property of DocShift Ltd. You retain full ownership of all documents you process — we have no claim over your content.

You grant DocShift no licence over your document content. The browser-local architecture makes this technically impossible in any case.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, DocShift's total liability for any claim arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to DocShift in the 12 months preceding the claim.

DocShift is not liable for: loss of data (we recommend keeping originals), indirect or consequential losses, or losses arising from third-party services we integrate with (Stripe, Supabase, Cloudflare).

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

8. Consumer Rights

If you are a consumer (not purchasing as a business), your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 are not affected by these terms.

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, you have a 14-day right to cancel a digital subscription from the date of purchase, unless you have already begun using the Service (in which case you may be charged for the proportion used). To exercise this right, email [email protected].

9. Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where reasonably possible. On termination, your right to use paid features ceases immediately. We will retain billing records as required by law.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer in another jurisdiction, you may have additional rights under your local laws that override this clause.
